The Deep Field Series

Illuminated Works
Artista Bottega St Paul, MN
April 2nd- 30th 2016

Exhibition Statement

Between December 18 and 28, 1995 the Hubble Telescope's Wide Field and Planetary Camera focused in a section of the sky with very few stars. 342 images from the 10 day period were compiled to give us the earliest images of the universe.

The striking images that the Hubble has given us has inspired me for as long I have seen them. Those images give us a greater understanding of our universe galaxy and our plant. They also give more to question and understand.

“When I reach for the edge of the universe, I do it knowing that along some paths of cosmic discovery, there are times when, at least for now, one must be content to love the questions themselves.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson Natural History Magazine, July 1996

Entryway Light

The did not have a light when I bought the house. It does have a switched electrical outlet up about 8 feet up and a hole in the ceiling where a light used to hang. I constructed a wall light.

Basically, I welded to pieces of angle steel and a piece of plexiglass. I wired three lights and a plug together so it could be plugged in.

TARDIS (part 1)

So, I decided that I need my own police (public call) box. So I am making one, it is modular and can go anywhere.

They Don't Make Cars...

I'm not the biggest fan of new cars mostly because nobody is making anything terribly iconic. The most iconic thing on cars is (was) the hood ornament. The "Leaping Jaguar," the Mercedes Benz three point star, or the Big Horn Ram that used to be on Dodge trucks all great icons that helped to define the car. They pop off the hood of the car and say "I am a Dodge, and I am strong and tough," or "I am fast, sleek, and fierce. I am a Jag."

That is gone now... I'm sure there are reasons.

Oh Right, I made my own.

I'll let it get some weather on it and then clear coat it.
In the short run when the gasket maker sets that will all get cleaned up.
Also go here to check out some great images of classic hood ornaments, when chrome ruled.

It Worked!

Some how I got a piece of 3/4 plywood, piece of 1/2 plywood, aluminum channel and a handful of clamps to function as a bench break.

It's not a perfict fold but after I bolt, rivet, weld and what ever else I do to it it will look good.
It may need some time with the rubber mallet.

When I'm done the tailgate of my old truck will be a nice bench.

wood turning round 1

I finally fired up the wood lathe today.
I sharpened my chisels, started turning and I realized that the previous owner of the lathe had the pulley on the motor mounted wrong, so fixed that.
I put laminated MDF on the lathe to see how it would spin. The stuff turns well.
The finish was smooth, but working it is like standing in a dust collector.

I have been gluing up all kinds of scrap from the shop as a way to start. I have some plywood, MDF, and OSB waiting to go on the lathe. I am interested to see how the OSB turns out.

I have two blanks about the same size. I'm thinking a lacquer finish on them.

it's comming along nicely

I started this last summer.
Since the last post,  I have it put together, changed it's stance, found something to use as it's head, an old water pump from a car. I do have the belt to match that will also go on to it.

Back view of it.

The front view.

I just need to find things to use as arms or something of the like.

Kickstarter

Thursday night I got an email from a friend of mine and he had just gotten his Kickstarter project up and running. I was not familiar with Kickstarter until Adam told me about the project he was putting together.  So, I am not sure how I missed hearing about Kickstarter until now. Kickstater is a web site where creatives can find funding for projects, movies, books, and art (like Adams paintings).
So check out Adams Kickstarter project here and check out his video.

Adam has been trying to convince me to put together a project but all I got is "You should help me with art like stuffs."

Sr. Pictures (my lil' sister)

These are my favorites from the shot I did with my sister for her Senior Pictures. We went down by the Stone Arch Bridge not far from De La Salle High School (from witch she will graduate in May). She Picked this location because of how it was a part of her high school experience.

Greetings Mr. Saatchi

How do you identify an artist whose work you would like own in your collection?
What do you look for in an artist?
What catches your attention in a piece of art?

Where do you look for art?
Where do you find artists?
Are art “hot spots” more convenient than creative?
Does location define artists or should artists define a location?

Thank for your time,
Mark Brady
